The Defenders

Zakir Naik cavorting with the who's who in Malaysian politics. As they say, birds of a feather flock together

No wonder hate preacher Zakir Naik (right) is unafraid to debase, degrade and demean other races and religions.

In the unlikely case you don't know him, the man is best described as repugnant, repulsive and revolting. He derides Indians. He ridicules Chinese. He mocks Hindus. He taunts Christians.

And still, he has his defenders!

PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Aziz (left) declared on Thursday that non-Muslims who want to expel the hate preacher from this country are enemies of Islam. And those Muslims who subscribe to the same intention are hypocrites and they will bear great sin.

On the same day too, the PAS president boldly and brashly vowed that “more than one million” members of his Islamist party will not allow Zakir Naik from being harmed, amid calls to deport him over his intemperate and inflammatory remarks.

Abdul Hadi Awang (right) trumpeted that it is an obligation for Muslims to defend their religion and their preachers when threatened, that solidarity with Muslims must always be above fellow citizens! Yes, even preachers who promote enmity, hostility and malice.

And on Tuesday, our Prime Minister offered this excuse: “The problem that we face is that we cannot send him back (to India). Because he runs the risk of being killed”.

He added: “So he is here today, but if any country wants to have him, they are welcome to do so”.

That is so wimpish of Mahathir – he cannot just dismiss our concerns in that flippant and frivolous manner of his.

I cannot begin to comprehend this man whom many Malaysians look up to but he still disappoints them anyway.

He’s sensitive to Zakir Naik and insensitive to us. He is concerned about Zakir Naik’s wellbeing and unconcerned about Malaysians’ feelings. He cares about an Indian citizen who by the way, is both a criminal and a fugitive and he is uncaring about the distress and pain that this don’t-give-a-damn Zakir Naik dispenses to us Malaysians.

Mahathir (left) needs to be prodded on three things.

One, we must uphold the rule of law and don't forget, we have an extradition treaty with India. Two, don’t make an assumption that this callous cleric will surely be murdered because that insults India. Three, Zakir Naik is openly belittling, disparaging and insulting Malaysians who do not belong to his faith.

A new Malaysia indeed! That is the garbage that Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan shove down our throats these days!

And in case we have not bled for some time now  here's a timely reminder:

Our blood is all the same – there's only one color! Red!
