Dinosaurs Are Jinn

The startling disclosure made by an academic from a highly regarded tertiary institution in Malaysia has set social media on fire.

An Associate Professor from the Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia Dr Mohd Zohdi Mohd Amin (left) has come out to say dinosaurs are NOT animals but they are “jinn” or what the Western world calls genies.

In an Islamic context, the term “jinn” is used as a collective designation for any supernatural being.

No wonder lah! I've always wondered why we call the popular Malaysian beverage "Milo dinosaur" (right)  when we can see the heaps of Milo in the drink but we cannot see the dinosaur.

Thank you, Assoc Prof Zohdi for this re-education!

Now that we know, what shall we do with this fact? That we shouldn’t have anything to do with anything that is supernatural? That Science has been feeding us with untruths?

The scientific and archaeological discoveries that point to the existence of large critters that roamed the earth that we know as dinosaurs are all fake news  if we believe Zohdi, that is.

Although dinosaurs had disappeared from the face of the earth – the fact remains that dinosaur fossils that had been unearthed would indicate that they were very real.  And so,  I venture to suggest that Zohdi's revelation is bizarre because it flies in the face of physical evidence.

And let me point out to him that descendants of the dinosaurs live on. In case, he doesn't know, birds are the living descendants of dinosaurs.

Yes, chickens and turkeys appear to be closer to dinosaurs than other birds are. At least, according to a scientific paper “Reconstruction of gross avian genome structure, organization and evolution suggests that the chicken lineage most closely resembles the dinosaur avian ancestor” published December 11, 2014 in BMC Genomics.

Hmmm, I wonder if I should stop dining on chickens and turkeys. I don’t want to be willfully eating “jinns”. I shall avoid patronizing KFC, Texas Chicken, Nandos and The Chicken Rice Shop since chickens are suspect. Better to be safe than sorry.

I mean, just in case lah. Best I abstain from chicken. At least until I stop laughing.

On Friday, I was at an EcoWorld Toastmasters event. It was the Club Exco 2019-2020 Installation Ceremony.

It was heartwarming to be recognized as one of four external mentors. if you're wondering who they are  it's Tan Saw Bee, Lim Thian Seng, G Sivalingam and myself.  Thanks to Nadia Hong and her team for giving us the opportunity to serve.

And I was also invited to deliver a speech "The Way Forward".
