Anina Saadudin's Stirs Up a Hornet's Nest

Anina Saadudin’s April 18, 2019 post on Facebook had stirred up a hornet’s nest in Sabah!

She (left) was clearly unhappy with a billboard that was celebrating Good Friday in what she sees as a Muslim-majority country.

And so she wrote: “Dulu pakai banner dan bunting saja. Sekarang dah ada kuasa boleh lah naik pangkat ke billboard. Tak cukup tinggi boleh guna crane bagi tinggi lagi. Tak cukup besar nanti boleh tambah tiang supaya saiz nya boleh double. Taon depan boleh iklan dalam TV pula. Sama rata lah katakan”.

English translation: “Before this, it was just banners and buntings. Now they have power, they can upgrade to billboards. Can use cranes if not high enough. If not big enough, can double the size by adding pillars. Next year can advertise it on TV. Equality, they say”.

Wow, this ex-UMNO and ex-Bersatu member Anina thought she was being very clever to post a photo of a billboard in Sabah which carries a special message for the Christian community in conjunction with Good Friday – perhaps hoping this will stoke righteous anger.

Her underlying message was plain and simple. How dare these Christians make such a public display of their faith, on a billboard for everyone else in Malaysia to see?

Anina had alluded that this would never have happened under the old pre-GE14 Malaysia, and that the country’s minorities are becoming “too much to handle”, and that the next thing they will demand for is “equality”.

But Sabahan Facebook users were quick to tell her to stop the provocation and instead learn about goodwill, respect and love for one another.

One Facebook user, Kerrol Kay said: “Blessed good Friday sister Anina Saadudin and to you all my brothers & sisters. Sister Anina I pray may the almighty Allah forgive you. “Father, forgive her, for she didn’t know what she is doing”.

Another user, Jacque Konoffsky who said that as a Muslim and Sabahan, he felt disgusted with Anina’s Facebook post: “Why do you want to instigate religion issues?? Sabah doesn’t belong to just one race or one religion. It belongs to everyone regardless of their background”.

Olizer Olivina Abdul: “🤷🏼‍♀️ What’s with this issue ANINA? Blessed Good Friday to u. 🤗 I hope that one day u’ll hv a clean heart”.

Berhentilah bermusuhan, carilah titik persamaan. Kepada rakan-rakan beragama Kristian, have a blessed Good Friday especially yang duduk Borneo! Perpaduan di Sabah dan Sarawak seharusnya dicontohi oleh masyarakat di Semenanjung”.

Nur Zulaikha Ismail: “Kalau ya pun lemah iman nda payah la bagitau org lain. . . Billboard jak pun bukan p ketuk rumah kaw p paksa ko convert to their religion 🤦🏻‍♀️ .. Kampung saya majority Christian, family saya pun majority Christian tida jua sia kena suruh convert, tida jua drg suru sy mkn babi, drg suruh lg sy solat klaw sy tida solat. . . Jangan bawa kamu punya mentality d ‘kampung’ kamu p borneo sbb pemikiran kamurang towards others religion tida boleh pakai d cnie !!!”

Mohammad Muammar: “Aku ni boleh mengaku membesar dengan salib; balik kg ada salib; pegi sekolah ada salib; keluar rumah nampak salib; membaca pun nampak salib; Alhamdullilah, saya masih belum jadi abu”.

Lin Binti Osman: “Eh! Makcik jgn begitu. Ini tanah air tumpah dia org jgn masuk campur. Papan tu takde kena mengena dgn amalan kita makcik. Saya duduk Bopot. Cari makan di Bopot. Papan tu di Bopot. Saya Islam. Anak2 saya tanya apa tu. Saya cakaplah terus terang apa maksudnya. Apa ceritanya. Jgn ko racist dan kacau tempat org. Kalau nak tebalik amalan dan agama kita bukan pada papan tu pada hati dan diri kita sendiri. Kami kat sini tak kira agama ok je. Jgn kacau. Jgn nak pecah belahkan kami dgn fitnah kau”.

Anna B B Hanee: “So?? Nmpak gmbar kat board bgtu pun trus tergugat akidah ka? Try dduk Sabah la, tengok mcm mna ko mau sebarkn politik kotor dgn menimbulkn hal2 agama ni... so harap2 Sabahan faham kenapa kta perlu tolak gabungan BNUmno+Pas ni”.

Doreen Nandu Darish: “Lmao😆 my Grandma,Grandpa father side,My Brother n some of my cousin pun muslim But tak terencat akal Pun mcm Kau ni🤭..statement Kejakunan detected🤣🤣”.

X guna kerja besar tpi sikap hormat sesama manusia x Ada...”.

Hopefully, Anina is strong enough to exorcise the demons of resentfulness and wickedness that live within her – and learn to be a good Muslim.

I am sure Malaysians of all faiths have her in their prayers.
