UMNO Goons Attack UM Students

Seven Universiti Malaya students protesting against former PM Najib Razak during the latter’s meet-and-greet session in front of Restoran Amjal near Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, came under verbal and physical attack.

The said students had held up placards and an image of Najib as a clown – the placards demanding Najib return the people’s money and asking where funds of RM2.6 billion had gone.

Thereupon, the small band of students were set upon by Najib’s goons – and one them was reportedly slapped, hair pulled and strangled. The Najib gangsters had the cheek to subsequently file a police report over the incident.

This is UMNO as we know them, embracing aggression and violence.

And to rub salt into the wound, Universiti Malaya issued a statement on the incident, with the university confirming that their students did not suffer any serious injuries from the affray.

And then the university said they took the view that they did not support “provocation” – seemingly suggesting that the placards constituted visual provocation.

UM also cited ball-less vice-chancellor Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim (right) as saying that the attack could have been avoided if all involved had refrained from “provocative” words and actions.

The way the statement was put together would suggest that the victims were the provocateurs.

Education Minister Maszlee Malik was right to express displeasure yesterday when he said public university administrators should strongly condemn the Friday assault.

“It is not appropriate for the university management to show a vague attitude and take the easy way when our undergraduates are attacked by irresponsible quarters”, he scolded.

“All vice-chancellors especially should display an attitude of condemning the uncivilized actions of a group of individuals who attacked these undergraduates”, he added.

We may have a Pakatan Harapan government but regretfully, they appear paralyzed and impotent. It looks like UMNO are again getting away with their combative and thuggish behavior. They have become a law unto themselves.

No wonder Malaysians are fast losing confidence with PH!
