PAS Kill Lawsuit by Paying RM1.4 Million

Thanks to their epic stupidity, the whole world now knows that PAS paid Clare Rewcastle-Brown (right) RM1.4 million to drop the defamation lawsuit initiated by the former's president.

The Sarawak Report editor admitted today that beleaguered Abdul Hadi Awang had made the desperate decision to pay because the court case has become untenable for him. There's no longer any reason for PAS to deny nor twist the fact because everything is out in the open.

It is noteworthy to mention that this payment had not been stated in the mutual settlement as Hadi’s lawyers had placed the sum in escrow prior to the termination.

Rewcastle-Brown added: “The out of court agreement did not oblige Sarawak Report to provide any of the remedies sought in Hadi’s claim, such as keeping silent on the subject of UMNO payments to PAS or anything else, since Sarawak Report had refused to apologise for its remarks or to surrender its commitment to fair reporting in the public interest”.

To add insult to injury, she pilloried and mocked Hadi (right) and PAS leaders for paying the sum of money so willingly in order to end the lawsuit. She even said that they knew they would have to spend significantly more had they pursued the case to the end and ultimately lost.

She asserted that the inconsistencies in the party’s claims and statements could have landed Hadi and his witnesses in legal trouble, resulting in his premature withdrawal.

“Hadi and his colleagues in PAS were clearly willing to pay the money in order to be spared cross-examination on their conflicting testimony and furthermore to avoid the very likely danger of publicly losing the case and being forced to pay costs. If they continued to contradict each other in front of an English Court someone would have committed perjury for lying in a London law suit (‘syaria compliant’ lying is not recognized in the UK civil court any more than in most Muslim countries)”, she explained.

Until yesterday, Rewcastle-Brown had remained silent – but now she is abandoning the confidentiality pact as PAS leaders have breached the agreement by variously misrepresenting it or denying its existence when they should have declined comment.

In fact, the payment was the only item from the settlement both parties had agreed to remain silent over.

But she changed her mind and decided to speak out!

If there is any teensy-weensy, itsy-bitsy honor left in Abdul Hadi Awang’s body, he would be promptly sending in his resignation and disappear into the gloom of the night with his tail between his legs.
