Liverpool Overcome Bayern Munich

It wasn’t exactly an impressive game between Liverpool and Bayern Munich on a wet Wednesday night – but two impressive goals from Sadio Mane helped the Reds overcome Bayern Munich 3-1 in this second leg of Round of 16.

We had more of the cutting edge and so, we took the lead in the tie in the twenty-sixth minute when Mane displayed an exquisite touch to bring down Virgil van Dijk's raking pass before firing into an empty net after Manuel Neuer had rushed from his goal.

Fußball-Club Bayern München e.V. now needed at least two goals and pulled one back when Joel Matip turned into his own net from close range in the thirty-ninth minute.

The Bundesliga champions failed to launch attacks after the break, and Van Dijk all but ensured Liverpool's spot in the last eight when he powered home James Milner's corner in the sixty-ninth minute.

Mane capped off an excellent display when he headed in his second fifteen minutes later. It was his 10th goal in the past 10 matches.

This means Liverpool have reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the second successive season. My optimism is rekindled.

On Friday, Bersatu chairperson Mahathir Mohamad (left) announced the entry of eight ex-Sabah UMNO leaders to his party.

Four are MPs, two are senators and two assemblypersons.

The MPs are Zakaria Edris (Libaran); Ronald Kiandee (Beluran); Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort) and Abdul Rahim Bakri (Kudat) while the ADUNs are Hajiji Mohd Noor (Sul aman) and Masidi Manjun (Karanaan). The senators are Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin and John Ambrose.

Mahathir also gave the assurance that they would support the Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government. For now lah.

Last Tuesday, I was in Petaling Jaya, Selangor for the Money Mastery Toastmasters meeting. There I was the Table Topics Evaluator.
