The 2019 Oscars

On Sunday, the 91st Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honored the best films of 2018.

The ceremony held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, USA gave out Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories.

I shall only make reference to the movies that I had blogged about and the winners are:
  • Best Actor winner: Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Best Sound Editing winner: Bohemian Rhapsody – John Warhurst and Nina Hartstone
  • Best Sound Mixing winner: Bohemian Rhapsody – Paul Massey, Tim Cavagin and John Casali
  • Best Film Editing winner: Bohemian Rhapsody – John Ottman
  • Best Original Song winner: Shallow from A Star Is Born – Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt
  • Best Original Score winner: Black Panther – Ludwig Goransson
  • Best Production Design winner: Black Panther – Hannah Beachler and Jay Hart
  • Best Costume Design winner: Black Panther – Ruth E Carter

Two Black Panther crew members, i.e. Beachler and Carter made Oscar history by becoming the first black winners in their categories.

"This has been a long time coming", Carter said in her speech. "Marvel may have created the first black superhero but through costume design we turned him into an African king".

I was at KGPA last evening for the Speakers’ Dream Toastmasters meeting – where the club president had kindly offered me a speaking slot. I was also roped in as a speech evaluator as well as Toastmaster-of-the-Evening.

I am now on my Competent Communication manual, round #55 and I delivered CC #5 titled Clueless.

I was voted Best Speaker and Best Evaluator. And I received a Toastmasters magnet and a notebook.
