Bersatu Take In 7 Ex UMNO MPs

On February 12, 2019, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad (left), who is also PPBM chairperson, welcomed seven new members into Bersatu.

It made news only because they were from UMNO and they are sitting MPs.

The seven who have now joined Bersatu are Hamzah Zainudin (Larut), Abdul Latif Ahmad (Mersing), Shabudin Yahaya (Tasek Gelugor), Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (Sabak Bernam), Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah) and Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu).

There was supposedly ire and indignation. I cannot understand the outrage because Bersatu or any other PH party have every right to accept BN defectors – as long as they do not contravene and go against PH’s understanding and agreement for reforms.

If politicians on their own accord and without any incentive(s), decide to switch sides – I don’t think it is wrong. Unless they hop over to the other side to be shielded from their past crimes.

But even that Mahathir had said that their membership does not grant them immunity from the law – should they have committed wrongdoings.

Besides, everybody deserves a second chance, even frogs – don't you think?

There’s really nothing wrong in taking them in under Bersatu – please let’s not be naïve. It’s politics after all and it’s a numbers game.

We should know that when Mahathir strengthens his hand, he also strengthens PH. Give politics a chance lah!
