Feeling the Heat

UMNO are feeling the heat.

Two Wednesdays ago, UMNO deputy president Mohamad Hasan urged Malaysians not to judge all of UMNO for the mistakes of a few. He was obviously referring to Najib Razak and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On Saturday, he again tried to distance the party from the growing 1MDB corruption scandal as the matter escalated from a civil suit to a full-blown criminal indictment in the US.

(Of course, the UMNO president is keeping mum lah).

Mohamad Hasan said that while he sympathized with former president Najib Razak, who is already facing charges here over the scandal, UMNO must not be dragged further into the matter that is under investigation in six international jurisdictions.

Then he made me laugh when he said “UMNO (are) an innocent party and absolutely not party to any operations or transactions of 1MDB”.

I contributed more peals of laughter when he added that “it is unfair, undeserved and unreasonable for any party to keep blaming and linking UMNO to matters that (they) did not know of or do”!

He must have been sound asleep all this while.

But certainly, Malaysians had already suspected there are UMNO leaders other than Najib who were involved with 1MDB, directly or indirectly. And for sure, many more UMNO leaders knew of the shady 1MDB deals but chose to close their eyes and cover their ears.

Doesn't Hasan know that nobody cares anymore, that UMNO have become irrefutably irrelevant?
