Two hundred and twenty Temiar orang asli from 17 settlements in Gua Musang, Kelantan travelled in five buses to Putrajaya to gun for Mahathir Mohamad’s help in finding a solution to the intractable problem that concerns the encroachment of their customary land.

A delegation met the prime minister and handed over a memorandum – amongst them were Jaringan Kampung Wilayah Tanah Adat Pos Simpor chairman Nur Mohd Shafiq Dendi Abdullah and Association for the Protection of the Natural Heritage of Malaysia (PEKA) president Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil.

Mahathir had asked about the orang asli who had come to see him, and when told that they were outside the Perdana Putra building, he decided to meet all of them.

And he proceeded to the compound where they were waiting and spoke to them.

“I listened to their problem. The Pakatan Harapan Government sympathizes with them and is prepared to help find a solution to the issue”, Mahathir said on Friday.

“I can only say that I will help them by negotiating with the Kelantan PAS government because land comes under the jurisdiction of the state government”, he elaborated.

The state government has failed the Temiar community – therefore, it is good that Mahathir is aware of their plight.

Still, it is going to be a monumental challenge because PAS are insisting land that the Gua Musang Orang Asli are fighting for belongs to the Kelantan state government. According to Kota Bharu PAS MP Takiyuddin Hassan.

Football. In the Scottish Premiership game between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian yesterday, the former lost 0-1 to the latter.
