France: 2018's World Cup Winners

Twenty years ago, France won the World Cup for the first and only time in their history at home in Paris with a 3-0 win over Brazil.

That team was captained by Didier Deschamps, who in 2018, aimed to emulate Brazilian Mario Zagallo and Germany's Franz Beckenbauer by winning the competition as both a player and manager.

Yes, his wish was granted – France did it again on Sunday – winning the World Cup by thwarting Croatia 4-2.

Félicitations France!

In an interview with CBS Evening News on Saturday, US President Donald Trump (right) identified the European Union, Russia and China as “foes”!

Now you wouldn’t think of the European Union but they’re a foe, Trump had insisted. What they do to us in trade, he said by way of explanation.

Russia is a foe in certain respects, he stated – but stopped short of clarifying what he meant.

And then, he highlighted China, asserting that it is a foe economically, certainly they are a foe.

He muddied the waters further by adding “But that doesn’t mean they are bad. It doesn’t mean anything. It means that they are competitive”.

Methinks, Trump needs to work on his English as well as on his communication.

Sometimes, when I think of Trump, I really do feel sorry for the Americans.

For better or for worse, he is the President of the United States of America. They elected him – and so they will have to live with it.
