5 Activists Go Missing in 5 Months

Five activists have been missing in recent months, sparking concern among the public.

The latest, Peter Chong was reported missing last week, after he posted an ominous message on Facebook about being warned by a stranger that people were increasingly disappearing and to be careful.

His disappearance followed the abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh, who was waylaid on a public road in broad daylight on February 13, 2017 and never to be seen again. Clips from CCTV recordings showed that Koh’s kidnapping was carried out in a professional manner by masked men along Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya.

The other three disappearances all took place in November 2016. Perlis Hope founder Amri Che Mat, Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Pastor Ruth had ostensibly vanished without a trace.

What is happening to this country?

At the PSA Women’s World Championship held in El Gouna, Egypt, Nouran Gohar, the reigning World Junior Champion and World No. 5 beat Malaysian squash queen Nicol David (left).

The 33-year-old David had defeated India’s Dipika Pallikal Karthik 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 11-6) in the first round in thirty-four minutes on April 07 and then staved off a challenge from Hong Kong's Annie Au for a 12-10, 11-4, 13-11 second round win in thirty-seven minutes on Sunday.

But she was stopped in the quarterfinal tie on Tuesday. David went down 6-11, 5-11, 9-11 after an intense 45-minute battle. I am dejected.

I was in Bangsar South to attend the MIA Toastmasters meeting last evening. I had two meeting roles, i.e. Grammarian and Speech Evaluator.
