Prices in Malaysia don’t make any sense anymore.

Food prices have been escalating. And now petrol prices.

The rising cost of living is taking its toll – and there is no respite.

We should know that rising prices hit the lower and middle classes especially hard. I have no doubt that many people are suffering and getting left behind.

But does PM Najib Razak care?

Believe it or not, our beloved prime minister does care! Really.

Najib Razak purposely wants to make life tough for us Malaysians. He believes that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. He wants to build a nation of tough Malaysians.

After all, life is tough. That’s life, right?

Unless, of course, you are a government minister and/or you belong to the privileged class. For the rest of us, tough luck!

I went to Bangsar in KL on Monday to deliver my forty-first Ice Breaker – titled “The Imperfect Me” – at the KL Advanced Toastmasters meeting.

My speech was based on my surname "Ong" – the fact that it is made up of just four strokes. And four strokes translate to four phases of my life, described using four personal characteristics: Vanity, daringness, confidence and humility.

And that speech won me Best Speaker.

A decent attendance – fifteen of us turned up – despite it being only the third day of the Lunar New Year.
