Yellow Balloons

Dancer Bilqis Hijjas had dropped yellow balloons (allegedly printed with Bersih’s demands) from the fifth floor of Pavillion Shopping Mall on Aug 31, 2015 – a day after the 34-hour Bersih 4 rally – at an event attended by PM Najib Razak and his spouse Rosmah Mansor. The rally was to call for clean governance, and Najib’s resignation amid corruption investigations.

Bilqis was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on September 23, 2015 under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for “insulting behavior” with intent to provoke breach of peace. If found guilty, she can be fined up to RM100.

I mean, they are just balloons. Made of rubber, latex, polychloroprene or nylon fabric. Nothing to even get excited about. Really, I reckon the color yellow that has been associated with Bersih had freaked them out!

Anyway, on July 01 this year, Bilqis received an acquittal. Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail said the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Bilqis, ruling that it had not shown that her action with the balloons amounted to “insulting behavior”.

Thirteen days later, the court registrar received a notice of appeal from the AG's chambers because the prosecutors were “not satisfied” with the judgment.

This move by the Attorney-General is not only a nuisance but is also nonsensical. But then again, what can you expect from Apandi Ali?

If you look closely, Apandi (left) resembles a cane toad (Rhinella marina). That tells you he is not at all smart and which probably explains why PM Najib Razak appointed him in that job in the first place.

Apandi like male cane toads will hump anything, and I mean, anything! They’re well known for humping dead animals, even trying for hours to hump a female that has been run over by a car – but they don’t limit themselves to just dead frogs, they’ll even hump dead salamanders, snakes, lizards, mice, any carcass really. I have no doubt that Apandi too loves to hump our PM, if he is given permission.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity”. You will understand it perfectly well when you get to know Apandi!

On Saturday morning, a small contingent of seven Toastmasters and three guests went to Jimmy’s Durian Orchard, near Bentong, Pahang.

The idea behind this pilgrimage is simple! To feast on Musang King durians and deliver speeches – that’s what Liquid Gold Advanced Toastmasters Club is all about!

We had durian-themed Table Topics and three project speeches followed by evaluations. Even the two speeches touched on 'durians'!

Our maiden meeting away from the city!

These durians are from 100-year-old trees! Together, they weigh 4 kg @ RM100 for the two fruits.

I was one of the three speakers and I delivered my CC#4 speech in Malay that was titled "Cari pasal" ("Finding trouble").

And six more speeches to go! I am finding that it is getting harder and harder... sigh!

The votes went to Andrew Tan as Best Speaker and Hj Hashim Adnan (Money Mastery Toastmasters Club) as Best Evaluator. Two core values coins from Toastmasters International were presented to them.
