Special Police Taskforce is Set Up

Today, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar (left) finally saw it fit to set up a special taskforce to deal with the increasing frequency of shooting cases nationwide. This was purportedly to allay public anxiety.

He reiterated that the cases were not random acts perpetrated by trigger-happy shooters, but criminals with a certain motive and urged the public to allow the police time to investigate properly to resolve the crimes.

We shall see how effective our guardians of law-and-order are!

I only hope we don't have to turn to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy!

Also, on the same day, the UK government formally rejected a petition signed by more than 4.125 million people calling for a second referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU.

“We the undersigned call upon HM (Her Majesty’s) government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60 per cent based a turnout less than 75 per cent there should be another referendum,” the petition said.

They should know the government did not set any minimum turnout threshold when the EU Referendum Act passed through parliament.

So their call had no merit. If you recall, on June 23, a 72 percent turnout was recorded – of which 51.9 percent (17.4 million people) voted in favor of Britain leaving the European Union.
