Star Wars Continues Breaking Records

Although the hype surrounding the seventh installment to the legendary "Star Wars" franchise has mostly disappeared, the Disney movie isn’t quite done breaking records yet. As somebody wrote, The Force Awakens "has entered a galaxy occupied by very few others".
The space epic hit theaters on December 18, 2015 and it enjoyed the biggest worldwide opening weekend and single weekend gross when it reaped $529 million.
And I have already mentioned – my blogpost dated December 28 – the sci-fi adventure movie was the fastest movie to achieve $1 billion ticket sales in a record 12 days after its global release.
On January 06, 2016, Star Wars: The Force Awakens became the highest-grossing film in domestic (read, North America) box office history, having surpassed "Avatar's" previous record of $760.5 million – $764.4 in a mere 20 days!
By February 05, the space epic had crossed the $900 million at the US box office – the only film to achieve the milestone and in just fifty days.
And the mega-blockbuster drew $13.9 million globally last weekend, pushing its impressive overall earnings to a robust $2.008 billion – making it only the third movie in box office history to reach that astronomical plateau. As for the worldwide number, Star Wars and Avatar are the only two films to actually cross $2 billion worldwide upon their initial release while it took Titanic two separate releases to cross $2 billion.
But the movie won’t be able to steal the crown from James Cameron’s Avatar which had generated $2.7 billion in ticket sales. Even overtaking Titanic’s $2.186 billion box office is a long shot at this point.
Anyway, whilst still on the topic of Star Wars, check out the lightsaber battle – it is so funny!
