One-Night Stand

Crazy in love. Photo credit: Seth Akmal, The Malaysian Insider, October 13, 2015
It has been reported on Tuesday that PAS and Malay right-wing group Perkasa have decided to work together on issues related to Islamic and Malay interests. In the Malaysian context, this means everything and anything.
In fact, the above photo of Abdul Hadi Awang and Ibrahim Ali in a loving embrace confirms the adulterous relationship that PAS are getting into with Perkasa. Suddenly, PKR have become the jilted lover.
Putting aside PKR’s sentiments on the matter, those two do make perfect bed partners!
But wait a sec! Late yesterday, Hadi’s political secretary Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar rushed to clarify that both parties only agreed to work on three issues – the edict by the Malay rulers on 1MDB; the release of 1MDB critics Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer, Matthias Chang; and transparency issues relating to the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) – and denied there was any formal alliance.
So, if we do not doubt the clarification-cum-denial, then both PAS and Perkasa were just having a one-night stand! Poor PKR!
I was in Subang Jaya yesterday to attend a speech marathon organized by Taylor’s College Toastmasters Club. Ten speeches and save one, they were all Ice Breakers. Really good speeches! I was an evaluator for one of the nine.
