Dismaland Beckons

Dismaland Legend

Clandestine street artist Banksy opens a theme park like no other.

A dystopian “bemusement park” contained within a derelict lido in the resort town of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England, has taken shape and it has its share of traditional funfair attractions, which have been given a satirical twist. There’s a dingy looking Disney-like castle and a gargantuan rainbow-colored pinwheel tangled in plastic. And an "oil caliphate-themed crazy golf course". There’s even a portrait artist who will render the exact likeness – of the back of your head. Also migrant boats, a dead princess and Banksy's trademark dark humor.

It's actually a pop-up art exhibition in the form of an apocalyptic theme park titled ‘Dismaland’ and carries works from no less than fifty-eight artists (e.g. Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, Jimmy Cauty, Bill Barminski, Caitlin Cherry, Polly Morgan, Josh Keyes, Mike Ross, David Shrigley, Bäst, and Espo) from around the world.

According to the website, Dismaland: "Contains uneven floor surfaces, extensive use of strobe lighting, imagery unsuitable for small children and swearing. The following are strictly prohibited in the Park: spray paint, marker pens, knives and legal representatives of the Walt Disney Corporation".
Dismaland opens Saturday, August 22 and runs until September 27, 2015 from 11 AM to 11 PM. Admission is £3 (free for under fives) and you can book a time slot for guaranteed entry.
