The Toastmasters International District 51 22nd Annual Conference 2015 held at the One Helang Hotel in Langkawi was a merry mosaic of fun and sobriety.

I took part in the Table Topics Contest but like last year with the International Speech Contest I was disqualified. I went overtime by four seconds. Disappointment again!

Two back-to-back by-elections in Malaysia this week serve as a litmus test on the unity of the country's supposedly 'fragile' opposition coalition and also Prime Minister Najib Razak's popularity.

Already, voters have questioned why campaigning in the two by-elections were devoid of images of the Prime Minister. PAS’ Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that this was the first time pictures of the PM were not used as a pull factor for voters of UMNO-BN.

Not only that but they were also asking why Najib Razak has not bothered to show up in both Rompin or Permatang Pauh to show support for his party’s candidates.

The Rompin by-election is today and the Permatang Pauh by-election is on May 07, 2015.
