1MDB's Arul Kanda Learns to Lie

Those of us who keep abreast of the alternative media know only too well that Najib Razak’s pet project, the 1Malaysia Development Bhd is linked to his wife’s good friend, Low Taek Jho (Jho Low).

And 1MDB’s Arul Kanda Kandasamy told us a lie when he insisted that neither Jho Low nor any friends of the Low family are involved in 1MDB (Mingguan Malaysia, February 15, 2015).

It is now public knowledge that Jho Low’s father Larry Low Hock Peng is a friend of 1MDB non-executive director Ong Gim Huat – both are, after all, Penang-based businesspersons.

In June 2013, the elder Low and Ong were conferred the title of Tan Sri by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and their mutual friends had put up an advertisement in newspapers congratulating the two men.

Ong is also chairperson of the Chinese newspaper Kwong Wah Yit Poh, besides owning a few small businesses.

And Ong and Ashvin Valiram (of the Valiram luxury business entity) joined the 1MDB board in January, 2010 – replacing then EPF CEO Azlan Zainol and current Sime Darby Bhd CEO, Mohd Bakke Salleh.

I guess Arul Kanda must quickly learn how to lie in order to survive in the job. I am counting the days when he will beat a retreat and quit.

On Saturday morning, I was at the MIMKL Toastmasters meeting where I delivered a CC speech #7. It was a Lunar New Year-themed meeting but I thought the attendance could have been better.

In the afternoon, I proceeded to KL’s Jalan Tun Ismail to attend the OUM Toastmasters meeting – where I was a speech evaluator for CC #10 – and I was subsequently voted Best Evaluator. There were chocolate coins galore at this meeting – and this made it extra enjoyable.
