Radio Free Service Suspends Service

Radio Free Sarawak, the independent radio service run by the website Sarawak Report, had to suspend its shortwave transmission services from November 15, 2014.

Sarawak Report blamed the suspension on the Sarawak Government investing millions in certain devices to jam its service. Unsavory news about what is really happening in the state where corruption and cronyism are so entrenched have been silenced. At least for now.

The Sarawak Report was distressed that the Sarawak Government was more interested in stifling free speech instead of spending the money on education and health and other issues which affect the people.

“The authorities in Sarawak have shown their true colours and also their fear of a single, small voice of criticism,” added the website.

Still, the radio is determined to continue with its internet radio service but given that broadband internet penetration is low in Sarawak, don't expect much. Its outreach is going to be sparse.

On Saturday morning, I was in KL’s Jalan Imbi to attend the MIMKL Toastmasters meeting. I delivered a CC speech #5 Your Body Speaks titled “The Killing Machine” and my evaluator was Grace Chan. My speech was about me as an accidental specialist skilled in annihilating mosquitos! No doubt it was an entertaining speech but it could certainly be improved.

BTW, the meeting started four minutes late. Tsk, tsk, tsk! I am giving it a score of a 4.5 over 10.
