Soup Kitchens Feed the Tourists Too

The Malaysian Insider pic by Nazir Sufari, July 7, 2014

On Monday, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim (left) had bravely made the claim that the feeding of the poor and the homeless by NGOs has attracted the attention of others, i.e. those who are less deserving. She fingered the tourists, identifying them as those who are taking advantage of soup kitchens in the city to get free food!

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this but then again, she is a BN minister. What do you expect?

While she’s at it, she might as well tell Malaysians and even Cabinet ministers, to stop hosting “open houses” during festive occasions. And be sure to bar tourists from attending these “open houses” because free food is available.

Talking about “open houses” whenever we organize them, why don’t we shepherd the poor and homeless to these events so that they too can be fed? At government “open houses” especially, the ministers in attendance can even help to serve food so they can feel empathy for this disadvantaged group. At least if we adopt my brilliant suggestion, we know that taxpayers’ money is being put to good use!

This Rohani is yet another minister who is quick to show Malaysians her capacity for stupidity. Anyway, I have no wish to argue with stupid people – they will just lower me to their level. And then they will beat me with experience.

Malaysians know only too well that our ministers are very clever at being stupid!

Sometimes I wonder about myself. I teach Master’s-level courses and I am conscious of the fact that most times, my other colleagues are all well-armed with PhDs.

I, on the other hand, do not have this qualification. All I have is just a Master’s degree and corporate experience a-plenty.

Check out the above photo that was taken last Saturday – I was the only one with “Mr” instead of “Dr”.

Please don’t get me wrong. I am not saying I feel insecure or that I am proud of myself. I am merely just “talking” out loud.
