Brazil and Germany Progress to WC Semi-Finals

On Friday, hosts Brazil and Europe's biggest remaining team Germany have set up an epic World Cup semi-final with deserved victories over Colombia and France respectively.

Five-times champions Brazil won 2-1 in a frenetic match in Fortaleza to end Colombia's dream run to their first quarter-final – and I was disappointed that the latter didn’t rise to the occasion to deny Brazil.

Meanwhile, France succumbed 1-0 to their old nemesis Germany in a more subdued affair in Rio de Janeiro. I’m sorry both teams had to meet one another in the quarter-finals but the former's defeat by the latter at the Maracana was to be expected. France fell short. It was a case of German efficiency trumping French over-elaboration and wastefulness.

Brazil and Germany will now meet in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday in a clash of styles and continents that is sure to excite fans around the world.

The Thursday meeting of Sunway University Toastmasters was not well-attended. By our standards, that is. We only managed to summon 30 members and guests to attend this particular session. Still, we had our fill – a full course of six Table Topics speeches and four assignment speeches. Every one of the speeches was fabulous and they were accompanied by fantastic evaluations as well. I don’t believe I was exaggerating when I gave this compliment because I really think it was well-earned by all. And we started on time too. I am going to give this meeting a score of an 8.5 over 10.
