Salary Reversals

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (above pic) announced roll-backs in the salaries of his top elected representatives, possibly in reaction to mounting criticism over the pay hikes approved in November of last year.
It is right that he led the way by reducing his salary more than half, taking home only RM14,175 out of his RM29,250 listed salary. The balance of the salary will be paid into a special fund for the welfare of the people of Selangor.
Speaker Hannah Yeoh has her salary cut by 33% from RM22,500 while Deputy Speaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s salary is being trimmed by 23.8% from RM15,750 and state executive members salaries are cut by 25.9% from RM20,250.
Only state assemblyperson salaries remain unchanged at RM11,250 as Khalid said the amount is reasonable.
Khalid revealed the pay cuts at the state assembly sitting on Monday. It is good to know that Khalid saw the error of his ways. I am getting an uncomfortable impression that he is becoming more and more UMNO-like in his actions – what gives, Khalid?
It looks like the cockroach tag is here to stay. Amy Lim sent me this today:
I received a surprise visit by two DIBA students this morning when I was in a DMK1013 lecture at the university. Nicole Vijayakumar and Regina Moy (my last semester’s students) came-a-calling and presented me with four cold cans of Coke – they sure know it is my fave drink! A very nice gesture! Thank you!
