Insulting Tweets

On Wednesday, a Bernama journalist Ismail Amsyar Mohd Said tweeted: “MH370 is a blessing in disguise for all of us. I understand now the beauty of unity, the sweetness of having each other...”

Six minutes later, Hishammuddin Hussein (left) also tweeted: "Right u are:) @IsmailAmsyar: #MH370 is a blessing in disguise 4"all of us...” Australia's Herald Sun reported the above and this was reproduced by The Malaysian Insider on Thursday.

Certainly, what we have are two idiots who had insulted the families of the 239 people on board the Malaysia Airlines passenger jet that has been missing since March 08, 2014. Not just that but the tweets were also irreverent, insolent and insensitive.

Ismail then tried to apologize, explain and defend his intention – in that order! Hishammuddin stayed mum and in fact, Ismail also apologized to Hishammuddin for "dragging him" into the controversy.  But even as Ismail said sorry, he wasn’t too happy about it because in quick time, he took the offensive and launched an attack on other media organizations.

Yesterday morning, he sent out a flurry of tweets like:

"there r (are) a lot of other media reports that are insensitive. Do they apologise? no. did it hurt the families' feelings? yes. all of u quiet."

"y did the media said 'crashed' when our PM said "ended". u guys said 'no survivors' when PM didn't spit a word about it."

"your reports crushed our feelings, the families' feelings when they r still hoping their love ones will come back. did any of u apologise?"

Taking Ismail's cue above, Hishammuddin too should apologize for his indiscretion. What he did was stupid. Now I know that if I ever need a brain transplant, I'd choose his because I'd want a brain that had never been used.

It really gives me a warm feeling when my students show appreciation for the hard work I put in. Yesterday, I received a nice hand-made Thank You card from one student, Alyna Tiong – and it meant a lot to me! The gratitude expressed was priceless!
