A Roald Dahl Piece

I like the above piece from Roald Dahl. Thanks to Timothy Nakayama for sharing.

Right now, to be honest – I don’t have ugly thoughts. Nor good thoughts either. My mind is just tired after marking exam scripts. And I am still not done yet!

I was at the Taman Indrahana Toastmasters meeting on Tuesday and I was given the role to evaluate an Advanced speech. Besides this, there were two other speeches but overall, the evaluations were a lot better than the speeches.

Even sadder, one speech that was to “inspire (the) audience” but yet the speaker – as far as I was concerned – did not inspire. It was a wrong speech. And as I have mentioned previously, I don’t understand why Toastmasters love to have PowerPoint slides to accompany their speeches. Especially CC speech #10!

This Indrahanian also relied on the visual aid and believe me, they did not help her. As far as the meeting is concerned, we started on time but we finished 18 minutes behind schedule. I would give this meeting a score of a 4 over 10.

And on Wednesday afternoon, I was on Level 9, Horizon Tower 2A in KL's Bangsar South to attend the Air Products Toastmasters meeting. I was the General Evaluator and I agreed because Joseph Kee who made the request was my ex-student from Nilai College. Anyway, it was a good meeting overall and they even kept to time! I am giving this meeting an 8 over 10 score.

And immediately after, I crossed over to Petaling Jaya for the MIMPJ Toastmasters meeting. I did not have any role but that was not really important because I could sit back and enjoy the meeting. And I did like the speeches – I was impressed with two of them – and the evaluations coming from seasoned Toastmasters were equally good if not better. I was there for only two-thirds of the meeting and I daresay it deserved at least a 7 over 10 score.
