Good Riddance to Murphy Pakiam

Murphy Nicholas Xavier Pakiam (left), the third Catholic Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, tendered his resignation as required by church law on December 06, 2013 when he turned 75, the mandatory retirement age for prelates. And the Vatican promptly accepted his resignation. A wise decision indeed.

I am sorry! I should address him by his full-blown title, i.e. Tan Sri Datuk Murphy Nicholas Xavier Pakiam! He has long ago forgotten he is a servant of God. Instead he cozied up to fork-tongued Najib Razak and compromised the Church in the process. Worse, he lusted after state-conferred honorifics of 'Datuk' and 'Tan Sri'. In the end, he dishonored himself.

Good riddance!

I am no longer capturing photos of the new Sunway University building that is rising tall and proud. I have become aware that a university is much more than the building(s) or the university rankings or the courses it offers. It is not even about who a student has become by graduation.

Rather, it is about learning that molds a lifetime, learning that transmits the heritage of millennia, learning that shapes the future.

I wonder how many of us can grasp this?
