A Meeting on a Train

On Friday, an energized company of fourteen enthusiastic Toastmasters did something out of the ordinary. They organized themselves and held a Toastmasters meeting on board a KTM Komuter train that was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh.

In a time of nearly ninety minutes, we listened to five Table Topics speeches and three project speeches. I was one of the speakers and I delivered my Ice-breaker for the twelfth time. The other two speakers were Kent Phang and Musthaq Mukhtar. All 3 speeches were from the Competent Communication manual.

The thirty-seventh meeting of the Sunway University Toastmasters Club started soon after we left KL Sentral and concluded just as we reached the Slim River station – this is the eighth stop and 4 stops away from our final destination. In other words, the meeting spanned three territories, i.e. Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perak. Indeed, this was an unusual setting for a meeting!

Unusual or not, it was also pleasurable. And memorable. I would give this meeting a 7 over 10. The Toastmaster-of-the Day was Nurdina Kasim, the Table Topics Master was Sheryl Lee and the General Evaluator was Yean May (Taman Indrahana Toastmasters Club). Of the 14 who were present for this meeting, twelve of us are from the Sunway University Toastmasters Club and the other two Toastmasters are from the Taman Indrahana Toastmasters Club.

In case you're wondering what we were doing on a moving train, it was because we were all going to the Toastmasters' District 51 Semi-Annual Convention Ipoh 2013.
