A Malaysian Frog in Indonesia

Poor Indonesia! A frog will be landing in that country soon – unless they forbid it. Mind you, it is not just any species of frog. This type is the poisonous kind. This particular amphibian is Zahrain Mohamed Hashim (left) who defected to UMNO from PKR in 2010 while he was the Bayan Baru MP and declared himself a BN-friendly independent. And he has been appointed the new Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia.

To many Malaysians, this is the reward for not holding onto principles but rather for defecting However, the official date of assuming his duty as the ambassador had not been finalized as it was still pending approval from the Indonesian Government.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman maintains that his ministry only selects the best person available for the position (of ambassador) to any particular country. It means that Indonesia doesn’t deserve anybody better. If this is not an insult to the country, I don’t know what is.

I just hope the Indonesians will veto this nomination because Zahrain is a disgrace. It is unfortunate that Malaysia will have such an ambassador. I look at it as a reward for defecting to BN. This is of course, typical behavior of UMNO-BN. It would seem that government positions are given out as political rewards and not for the purpose of providing service to the public and/or country. Malaysia Boleh!

On Saturday morning, I was at my usual haunt in Jalan Ampang for the MIMKL Toastmasters meeting. I was supposed to deliver a speech but I gave my speaking slot to Sunway University Toastmaster, Nurdina Kasim who wanted to challenge herself by speaking before an unfamiliar audience. Anyway, she did CC speech #8 and in my opinion, it was a really good speech. Not surprisingly, she was voted Best Assignment Speaker for that meeting. To be fair, this meeting showcased great speeches and evaluations. I am happy to give this meeting a score of a 7 over 10.
