Preventive Detention Doesn't Work

For the first time, Putrajaya’s top law officer had publicly stated that preventive detention had actually failed to check the rise in violent crimes but the police were “addicted" to using the law.

Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail revealed on Saturday that many suspects were detained without trial and freed later but public order and security did not improve in the country.

Gani had maintained that "even after the repeal of the EO in 2011, there was no evidence from the 1,567 investigation papers submitted that violent crimes were committed by former detainees". The AG didn't mince his words to say that there was "only some" or "very little" proof he was very clear on the language he used. i.e. "there was no evidence"!

How come he only realizes it now?

On the same day too, I was emceeing an event: The MIM Toastmasters Club of Kuala Lumpur’s “Installation & Appreciation Nite” – held at the D’Villa Residence (formerly known as Holiday Villa) in KL’s Jalan Ampang. I did good, I suppose and I even shared some jokes to entertain the audience. For an unfunny guy, that is really an achievement! Overall, a decent evening.
