Cannabis Plants in the Streets of Newport

Newport (Welsh: Casnewydd) in southeast Wales had council officials puzzled after cannabis was found in flower pots put out on the streets to brighten up the city. It caused quite a stir after more than twenty illegal plants were discovered among the pretty street flower displays. The position of the plant pots was in open view of passers-by on some of Newport's busiest streets.

According to local press reports by the time the police had been informed the plants had already been harvested. A Newport council spokesperson said the authority was now scrutinising its CCTV footage in order to establish who the cannabis cultivating culprit was.Gwent Police told the BBC that the fact that the plants had now gone was problematic: "Now that the plants have apparently disappeared it's difficult to determine whether they were in fact illegal cannabis plants or not and, if so, whether they had been deliberately planted for cultivation".

Somebody must be getting really high by now!

Last evening, I attended the Puchong English Toastmasters meeting. I was tasked to evaluate a CC speaker and I did. One of four speakers also withdrew late Sunday night and the club's Vice President Education Amethyst Song gave me an opportunity to fill that speaking slot. And I did I delivered an Advanced speech from The Entertaining Speaker manual, a speech titled “Winning Delayed”. It was a humorous speech and I had done well enough to create ripples of laughter amongst the audience. I think my evaluator, CIMA Toastmaster Steven Yong liked it – anyway, l knew I succeeded because I was duly voted Best Assignment Speaker. This was another new challenge for me because I presented this speech – ‘The Entertaining Speech’ – extemporaneously.

The meeting venue was overflowing with members and guests (including six Toastmasters from Sunway University Toastmasters Club). A good meeting that earned a score of a 7 over 10.
