UMNO versus PAS in Kuala Besut

In the first by-election post-GE13, UMNO is exhibiting increasing signs of nervousness! In fact, former Terengganu menteri besar Idris Jusoh on July 08, 2013 is asking PAS not to contest in the Kuala Besut polls. Of course, he put it very nicely. He said there is "no need" for PAS to contest because there should be "less politicking" after the recent general election. UMNO's win in the state seat on May 05 "have to be respected", he maintained. More to convince himself than to the electorate, he said PAS would need 1,200 votes extra to win the election. And then he boasted that UMNO's majority in the state seat could increase to up to 4,000 votes because he, as the MP for the Besut constituency, has been made Education Minister II.

It is easy to read from his clumsy remarks that UMNO is clearly worried PAS might just pull off an upset! [UMNO's Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman is in a straight fight with PAS candidate Azlan Jusoh. The by-election was called following the death of BN assemblyman Rahman Mokhtar on June 26].

I was in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling on Thursday to check out the Satu Hati Toastmasters meeting. This was my very first visit to this club. And there were familiar faces there as well Toastmasters from Bangsar, Friendship and MIMKL. A point of regret: The meeting started on time but soon after, the Timekeeper surrendered control and we witnessed a meeting that finished very late! I would give this meeting a score of 2 over 10.
