Ma'amite

I was putting the finishing touches to my PowerPoint slides for next week’s lecture when I came across this promotional blurb on Marmite.

If you don’t know, it is a British favorite – a rich, dark-brown, yeasty spread for hot toast, on wafer biscuits, as a hot drink or a sandwich filling.

To toast the Queen's Jubilee, Marmite had created 'Ma'amite', in an aptly-named PR caper (Webpage

If you don’t understand, let me clarify. On presentation to The Queen, the correct formal address is 'Your Majesty' and subsequently 'Ma'am'. Got it?

The product became available in Sainsbury’s from April.16, 2012.

This morning, I was in KL’s Jalan Ampang to attend the MIMKL Toastmasters meeting.

Sunway University Toastmaster Thinesh Naidu was with me and he was given my speaking slot – to deliver his CC speech #8. I daresay he is slowly and steadily improving and I am glad he is up to the challenge!

As he continues to give his speeches at other clubs, he has been fortunate to have had good evaluators. Today, it was Geoff Andrew’s turn and I am sure his feedback had benefited Thinesh.

I was not let off scot free though and I was given the job of evaluating a new member who was making his first maiden CC speech. In fact, all the speeches and evaluations impressed.

And even though there were only nineteen of us (16 members and 3 guests), the meeting was faithfully punctuated by joyous bursts of energy – thanks to the senior members of the club – who enlivened this Toastmasters session and made it fun! I am happy to give this meeting a score of an 8 over 10.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Thinesh earned the recognition for "Passion to Succeed" because in his quest to become a better speaker, he went "clubbing" to deliver his speeches and this was duly noted by MIMKL's club president Chin Yeow Honn.
