UMNO, the Village Champ

The Malay daily, Sinar Harian revealed an interesting fact. Based on the GE13 outcome, Pakatan Rakyat controls nearly all the capitals in almost all of the states in this country. I take it to mean that UMNO is nothing more than a “jaguh kampung” (village champ).

Is that why Najib Razak is keeping a low profile?

On Tuesday, I was given the task to be the presenter and facilitator of the SpeechCraft program # 4 – organized by Taman Indrahana Toastmasters Club – and it was on ‘vocal variety’. I managed to get the PowerPoint slides ready in under two hours on that day itself and I gave it my best shot. There were also speeches and evaluations – and so, I was not wrong to refer it as a regular meeting that happened to incorporate a 20-minute presentation. I would give this meeting a 6 out of a 10.

Then the following day, I went to the thirteenth floor of Deloitte Malaysia to attend their Toastmasters meeting. Club president Leona Liman kept the meeting on a high note although her members insisted on maintaining their composure. Still  the meeting did produce sparks because Monash University Toastmasters came and with their sheer numbers, they made the meeting an engaging one. Honestly,  I wouldn’t say I enjoyed the meeting but it had its magical moments. Anyhow, I would give this meeting a score of a 6.5 over 10.
