Iron Lady (1925-2013)

Margaret Thatcher (left) was a grocer’s daughter who became Britain's first female prime minister. She was dubbed “the milk snatcher” for discontinuing a free milk program for schoolchildren ages 7-11 in the 1970s. But she was more popularly known as the "Iron Lady", a nickname that became associated with her uncompromising politics and leadership style. She died yesterday of a stroke at the age of 87.

Whilst I was not fond of her, two of her quotes struck a chord with me.

1. “Defeat? I do not recognise the meaning of the word.”
2. “I fight on, I fight to win.”

The BN dirty tricks department is at it again! Four men who were believed to be putting up false Pakatan Rakyat banners in Semenyih, Selangor on Sunday evening (about 06.30 PM) have been detained by vigilant PAS supporters.

The four – in their late 20s and early 30s – came in a Myvi car that sported a 1Malaysia sticker and which was carrying more banners that Selangor PAS says are a bid to smear the opposition PR coalition.

"The banners contain slander, featuring Pakatan leaders as if they were put up by DAP, PAS and PKR," said Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Osman.

The provocative banners, he stressed, were not at all from any of the PR parties.

The banners come in Malay and Chinese, mostly espousing that a vote for Pakatan is a vote for an Islamic state, hudud laws to be implemented should the party come to power, PKR supposedly promoting freedom of religion by allowing Muslims to turn apostate, and DAP claiming that it will help those who vote for them to get equal rights as Malaysians.

The four were taken to the Semenyih police station and handed over, where the PAS supporters also lodged a police report against them. Abdul Rani said that other than Semenyih, similar banners were also found in Meru, Shah Alam, Kota Raja, Klang and Subang Jaya.

Subang Jaya DAP assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh confirmed this underhanded tactic, saying that the Kelana Jaya Pakatan had discovered and removed 50 false banners within the vicinity of the Subang Jaya area. She suspected that BN is responsible for these banners.
