The MNLF is itching to get involved

Battle-hardened veterans of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have sailed from the Philippines to reinforce followers of the Sulu sultan who are battling Malaysian forces, one of their leaders said today.

"Many have slipped through the security forces. They know the area like the back of their hands because they trained there in the past," said Muhajab Hashim, chairperson of the MNLF's Islamic Command Council.

"We are expecting more of them to join (the fighting)", he announced.

In fact, on Monday, Hadji Acmad Bayam, former chief propagandist of the MNLF told the Manila Bulletin that he recalled that the Malaysian military trainers joked about the firearms at the MNLF training camp on Jampiras Island, off Sabah, as they turned over the late Libya’s Colonel Moammar Gadaffi’s weapons’ supply that came through Malaysia.

“We are not even sure if the firearms we are giving you will not be turned against us,” the Malaysian trainer had said in jest.

This is what happens when the UMNO regime gives covert support and sanctuary to “terrorists” in southern Philippines (and also southern Thailand, in case you didn’t know). The evil that the government does is simply coming “home”! I pray the above is not true or we will find ourselves in deep shit!

There are those who suspect the MNLF orchestrated the offensive because they feared a peace deal being finalized between the Philippine government and another Muslim separatist group would marginalize them. And Prime Minister Najib Razak’s “peace-making” effort unwittingly upset the power structure of the Moros.

I suspect it is the web of politics that has taken hold of this whole Sabah episode.
