Making Light of Rape

I just read that Republican US Senate hopeful Richard Mourdock had expressed regret a day after suggesting pregnancies caused by rape were God's plan.

In Malaysia, we have more than our fair share of politicians who made ludicrous comments that are dementedly nonsensical besides being brazenly vituperative.

For example, MCA Wanita vice-chairperson Heng Seai Kie (left) made the outrageous claim on October 20, 2012 – this was during the Wanita MCA AGM – that PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz condones the rape of non-Muslim women who do not conform to the Islamic dress code.

And her party president Chua Soi Lek happily defended her because he said Nik Aziz had made the opinion clear in a speech four years ago. The MCA president had alleged that in the 2008 speech, Nik Aziz had said that women who do not “tutup aurat” (protect their modesty) “deserved to be raped”.

“And the reason he gave was that this is because the eye is connected to the genitalia so when you see… you get provoked.” (Webpage, published October 20, 2012).

I can confirm that Chua is an idiot beyond compare! How MCA members can even tolerate his ignoble existence is beyond me! Even if these members are devoid of any intelligence, it is still inexcusable.

Stupidity has become an infectious disease. And Heng has succumbed to it. MCA is really a party of has-beens and if I may add, beyond salvation.

Yesterday, I went to the Metro Toastmasters meeting. Regretably, there were just twelve of us who attended, ten members and two visiting Toastmasters. I took part in Table Topics along with five others and I was voted Best Table Topics Speaker. Only two project speeches were delivered and their evaluations were given by the two Victor Ongs (one is a member and the other a frequent guest)! This meeting started seven minutes late but thankfully, it was still enjoyable. A 6 out of a 10 score for this Toastmasters meeting.
