Police Manhunt

The police manhunt for those identified during Bersih 3.0 has already begun in earnest. Twenty-six have surrendered to the police, including one demonstrator who had alleged that he was badly beaten up after he voluntarily turned himself in.

But what about the police who ran amok?

So far, Lance Corporal Mohd Khairul Asri Mohd Sobri of Tanjung Malim police and Constable Shahrul Niza Abd Jalil of Dang Wani, Kuala Lumpur (above photo) have been charged with using criminal violence (Section 350 of the Penal Code) in assaulting Guang Ming Daily photojournalist Wong Kin Onn at the Bersih 3.0 protest rally in Kuala Lumpur on April 28.The maximum penalty is three months’ jail and/or a RM1,000 fine – a lightweight sentence, no matter how you look at it. Anyway, both claimed trial and were allowed bail at RM3,000 each.

What about the other hoodlums in uniform?
