Neither Credible nor Independent

Yesterday, grossly inept Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein named the members of the Bersih 3.0 independent panel that is tasked to investigate allegations of police violence. And the top dog of this six-person committee is himself an ex-police officer! Hanif Omar (in cahoots with two other ex-IGPs) had publicly supported Najib’s gratuitous claim that the Bersih 3.0 “sit-in” was a deliberate endeavor to topple the government and even exhorting the police to act against the “alleged coup attempt”. So credibility and independence have been flushed down the toilet. Do you still believe that truth will make an appearance? I very much doubt it.

I contacted the Vice President Education to get a speaking slot at her club and Tan Chuan Leng was gracious enough to grant me one. And so I delivered my CC speech at the Telekom Malaysia Toastmasters meeting on the fifty-third floor of Menara Telekom. The Toastmaster-of-the-Evening seized the chance to pull me in to be the evaluator for one of their speakers, Ezatul. Not only that but I was also collared for the Table Topics. And guess what? In the end, I was voted the Best Table Topics Speaker, Best Speaker and Best Evaluator!!! This surely put me in an awkward situation but I guess I deserved the recognitions. As far as meetings go, it was alright. I would give it a score of a 7.5 out of a 10.
