Tent Protestors

This morning, Occupy Melbourne surprised the local law by turning their tents into costumes. When police tried to tear down the tents, they sprouted legs and heads and started running around Flagstaff Gardens. As the story went, the cops turned and left, chased by tents. Soon after, the cops returned and exacted petty vengeance on the costumed protesters.

A video that has been uploaded on YouTube showed police moving in on one woman protestor. She had told police: "This is not consensual, don’t take my clothes off!’’

Occupy Melbourne spokesperson Tal Slome claimed eight police officers were involved when they grabbed the tent-wearing woman and as they restrained her, they sliced the tent costume off her. They then left with the tent, leaving the protester in a public park in only a bra and underwear.

According to an Occupy Melbourne statement, the significance of the costume was to highlight restrictions placed on protesters staging a 24/7 protest in Flagstaff Gardens. Melbourne police have received a physical assault complaint over this incident.
