Liow Tiong Lai Eats Humble Pie

I just completed the Sunway University-organized “Research Methodology” workshop at the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa and although it was basic stuff, it served as a refresher course to those of us who attended this training on December 01-03, 2011. There were thirty-two of us and SUBS faculty made up half of that number – reflecting our earnest desire to really start writing research papers, whether for conferences, publications or both. This session conducted by University of Malaya’s Dr Dilgit Singh was indeed very practical and I actually managed to come up with eight research ideas that I can work on.

Yesterday evening too saw me attending the Malaysian Irish Alumni Association (MIAA) Annual Dinner at Subang Jaya’s Kelantan Delights. The VIPs were the MIAA Patrons, Irish Ambassador, Declan Kelly as well as Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. A very relaxing evening altogether with a lavish spread of Kelantanese cuisine in the company of good friends and newly-made friends: SK Khor, Dayang Mastura, Ann-Marie and Lakhvinder, Max and Betty and others.

So now we know that the allegations made against Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia outlets are TRUE after all! Read my postings dated November 14 and 18. Already, KR1M has withdrawn the children’s milk powder from its shelves and this notification was made on its website on November 16, 2011 – with no reason stated for the products’ recall – two days’ after Ameer Ali Mydin of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad made indignant denials. Then today, I read in Sunday Star today (p 12) that thirteen products sold at KR1M have been taken off the shelves by the Health Ministry. According to the ineffectual Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai, these are fresh milk, evaporated milk, condensed creamer, oyster sauce, fruit jam, canned curry chicken, mango cordial, ghee, groundnuts, creamy peanut butter, crunchy peanut butter, crispy peanut butter and canned sardine in tomato sauce (155gm).

So, why make the flimsy claim that Pakatan was politicizing this issue in the first place? Pakatan was right to speak up because the rakyat must know!
