Triumphant Lady Gaga

I went to Jalan Pantai Baru to attend the Telekom Malaysia Toastmasters meeting last evening. It was held on the 50th Floor of a landmark building that is shaped to represent a sprouting bamboo shoot – yup, you can see it from the Federal Highway, it’s Menara Telekom – and there, I was gently persuaded to take on the role of General Evaluator, Still, I was pleased as Punch to note that the speeches and evaluations were all great. I listened to three prepared speeches and all were delivered masterly. The winner of the Best Speaker award went to newbie Ezatul Faizura who impressed us with her valiant verbalization and immaculate English! And to wrap up a marvellous evening, I won the Best Table Topics Speaker award – is anybody really surprised? Another 8 out of a 10 meeting! Parking was expensive though – RM6 at an open-air carpark but I guess getting a majestic view of the city itself is worth the price of admission.

On Sunday, Lady Gaga again basked in the limelight when she won trophies for Best Song and Best Video for her mega-hit "Born This Way", as well as Best Female and Biggest Fans at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena.

Backstage after the show, the pop diva said she was overwhelmed by her haul of trophies.

"I never anticipate or perceive that anything will come easily to me," she said. "It's always a fight from the bottom up" (Website http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-15614714, published November 06, 2011).
