Foo's Smashing Address

Friday (and Saturday) was Orientation Day for freshies starting the new semester at SUBS (Sunway University Business School). The Head of School, Dr Foo Yin Fah was in inspiring form as he addressed the students and I could not help but noticed that he kept both students and faculty mesmerized. Well, I was impressed because I hung for dear life to his every syllable, word, phrase and sentence! He shared his vision of the School as well as what students can expect when they enrolled in SUBS. I could see that Auditorium 7 was almost filled up with newbies and this augurs well for us because we are really riding on a growth trajectory!

Yesterday morning saw me fulfilling my pledge to Faith Toastmasters Club as I turned up to be the General Evaluator for their Saturday morning meeting. There were nineteen of us in total and ten were Toastmasters from other clubs lending support to this fledgling club. A good meeting because I heard three newbies making their maiden speeches and they, in turn, received solid evaluations from experienced Toastmasters. I particularly enjoyed the Table Topics session because it had a fresh and novel approach. It introduced a nonsensical word in a line of sentences and every participant was supposed to demonstrate his or her ingenuity/creativity by giving “meaning(s)” to this “absurdity” so that the situation described in those sentences made sense. Hmmm, I hope I am describing this well enough to be understood! Anyway, I immensely enjoyed it. In my book, this meeting earned a score of 7 out of a 10.

And in the evening, I was at the Joint Installation Dinner for Premier Advanced Toastmaster Club amd MIM Toastmasterrs Club of Kuala Lumpur – the two “great clubs” of District 51 (i.e. encompassing Peninsular Malaysia). The event was held at Rahsia Restaurant & Bar in KL’s Jalan Damai. I was duly installed as the Vice President for Membership for MIMKL. And on this evening, Bernard Louis and I were the joint emcees for this enjoyable event. I relished the emceeing part too.
