Chua Sidesteps Perkasa, Attacks DAP

Further to my posting yesterday about Ibrahim Ali browbeating Chua Soi Lek on a speech the latter made at the MCA Kedah convention – Chua is now claiming his speech has been taken out of context (Star, August 09, 2010, p N8) and that it has been unfairly exploited by DAP and PAS. In fact, Chua went so far as to accuse DAP of “apple polishing” PAS – I am presuming that PAS blasted him for his speech and DAP concurred. Strange, no mention of Perkasa anywhere? Maybe, Chua finally recognizes that Perkasa is in cahoots with UMNO – so he is better off by not confronting Ibrahim Ali. Besides, Perkasa always seems to have the upper hand where MCA is concerned, the latter shying away like a gelded mongrel. Anyway, Chua has clarified that he was actually referring to Syed Akbar Ali’s book Malaysia and the Club of Doom about the Muslim world’s under-achievement in the areas of education and socio-economic development. Wow, all of a sudden, Chua is wading deep into Islamist socio-economic issues as if he is an expert!

Still, it is strange that Chua chose to remind the Chinese to be cautious of PAS – supposedly due to the Islamist party’s emphasis on religious development. But what about UMNO? Does he mean that by his very omission, UMNO is not? Duh! Tell me, what is UMNO’s agenda, really?

It is pertinent to highlight here that DAP’s Lim Kit Siang cited UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, as having criticized the UMNO leadership for failing to provide leadership in the “Allah” controversy, and asking why UMNO was “digging itself into an intolerant hard-line position that has no parallel that I know of in the Muslim world” when PAS was holding on to the “more plural and moderate position” (Webpage
