Two Draws

I watched the WC opening ceremony as well as the South Africa-Mexico match at Bernard's. The Mexicans were certainly the better team but it was South Africa who drew first blood when Siphiwe Tshabalala struck home with a powerful left-foot thunderbolt from an angle on the left (55). Eventually, Mexico's Rafael Marquez struck 12 minutes from time to deny hosts South Africa a winning start to the World Cup at Soccer City in Johannesburg. The final score 1-1.

I did not watch Group A's second match but I read this morning that Uruguay and France played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw in Cape Town. What a humdrum start for Les Bleus.
