Jon Tan Impresses

I left Klang this evening when it was just starting to drizzle. I was determined to brave the rain and the bumper-to-bumper-traffic to go to Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. It wasn’t just another Toastmasters meeting – this one was different. There was a 60-minute workshop “Scripting an Effective Speech: The Emotional and Psychosocial Approach” conducted by Jon Tan, a Toastmaster who specializes in Charismatic Public Speaking and Persuasive Communication. I was glad I came because I benefited immensely from this session. I do know that the key to a great speech is an impactful intro and outro, plus three pointers as the speech's 'body'. This means that I am again going to re-look at my draft for Friday's speech - incorporating the lessons I absorbed this evening. And woohoo, now I have ideas for my speeches.

I also took part in the Table Topics session and I suppose, not unexpectedly won the Best Table Topics Speaker title from a field of 8 speakers. Irrespective of whether I won or not, it served as good practice for me for the coming club-level Table Topics contests. This was my maiden visit to the TTDI Toastmasters Club.
